I am very interested in
infographic thinking because it widens my horizon. After reading this article,
I know the three dominant things a graphic editor needs to do. I will talk
about the first two things in this post.
Firstly, Graphic editors need
to filter information from tens of thousands of pieces information. For
example, they read a long article and summarize the main idea of the article.
They cannot leave out any of important information. Otherwise, the audiences
may have difficulties to access and understand it. What they do is like making
up a Jigsaw puzzle. If they leave out some of vital pieces, people cannot
figure out the image at all.
Secondly, Graphic editors are
supposed to establish the relationships and discern patterns. They cannot
design an infographic deviating from the original meanings. They select the
most important information and establish the most suitable relationships to
connect these fragments of information. Only they do it successfully, the audiences
can understand it correctly. What’s more, they also need to pay attention to aesthetics.
They cannot use awful patterns to organize an infographic because awful
patterns are failing to attract audiences.
The Infographic Thinking
Workshop teaches students how to do these three things. I like the group works
in the workshop. In the group work, I can use what I have learnt and exam my
ability. I can also learn a lot from my group members. Group tutoring is also
good to find my shortcomings.
If I have the chance, I want
to participate in the workshop.
